Houghton College is hosting the sixth annual "Christmas Prism" Dec. 7 to 9 in Houghton, as well as Rochester and Buffalo.

This "Christmas Prism" - "Shout the Glad Tidings! -is an artistic exploration of the joy of Christmas, featuring more than 200 students, and will include both choral and orchestral music, as well as dance, visual art and poetry.

In its sixth season, all who have attended has wonderfully received "Prism". Last year, audience members were quoted as saying, "It was life changing. ... I have never had such a musical-spiritual experience."

"It was one of those moments when everything worked together to produce an amazing experience. ... The audience literally leaped to its feet in resounding applause. Three curtain calls!"

"I have never been moved to tears at a musical performance before tonight."

The "Prism" performance approach combines wide-ranging choral music with its instrumental counterpart, and unifies it into a single tapestry of great power. The ensembles include symphonic winds, philharmonia, various instrumental chamber ensembles, college choir, men's choir, women's choir and solo and small-group vocalists. The conductors will be Dr. Brandon Johnson, Dr. David Davies and Dr. Stephen Plate.

Johnson, director of choral activities, said, "The entire program and its interwoven threads are what make this event special. The seamless interaction of music, art, scripture, poetry and lights provide a unique perspective on the season of Christmas. The program in its entirety is so much more than (just) the sum of its parts."

The Dec. 7 event will be in Rochester at the Third Presbyterian Church at 7:30 p.m., while the Sunday, Dec. 9, performance will be in Buffalo at the First Presbyterian Church at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, will see "Prism" hosted in Houghton College's Wesley Chapel.
