Obit -- Joseph M. Samranyby Olivia
Joseph M. Samrany, a longtime resident of Grand Island, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. He was 75.
Born in Buffalo on Nov. 26, 1935, Samrany was a graduate of Bishop Timon High School. He was an owner and self-employed concrete contractor for the family business, Samrany Concrete. He worked for 60 years.
Samrany lived on Grand Island for 56 years. He was known for playing Santa Claus for the Town of Grand Island and for the elementary schools for more than 25 years.
A car enthusiast, Samrany was the owner of a 1988 Avanti Studebaker, and he won several awards at car shows. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy (nee Scheelar) Samrany of Grand Island, with whom he celebrated his 55th wedding anniversary on Sept. 1; his daughters Cheryl (David) Calire, AnnMarie (Robert) Stewart, Lisa (A. Peter) Podlucky and Paula (Jeffrey) Miller; and his sisters Patricia (Roger) Waldron and Arlene Conforti. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends and relatives are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Stephen R.C. Church (2100 Baseline Road) on Friday at 10 a.m. (Please assemble at the church.)
If desired, memorials may be made in Samrany's memory to Hospice Buffalo Inc., 225 Como Park Blvd. Cheektowaga, NY 14227. Burial will be at St. Stephen Cemetery on Grand Island.
