Erie County Sheriff's Office Reports for Nov. 16, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 163 calls from Nov. 3 to 9. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 17 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Nov. 3

•West River Road, marijuana arrest - Deputies responded to a report of a disturbance call coming from a party on West River Road. Their investigation led to the arrest of a juvenile offender for unlawful possession of marijuana. The juvenile offender was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Grand Island Boulevard, disorderly person - A complainant stated that another driver approached her vehicle and began pounding on her window accusing her of cutting him off. Deputies spoke to both parties and advised them.

•West River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Schwegler Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that several youths were being loud during the late evening hours. Deputies located the subjects in question and advised them.

•Whitehaven Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 37-year-old man from Buffalo after a Department of Motor Vehicles check showed his license was currently revoked. The man was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree and other traffic infractions. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Sunday, Nov. 4

•South State Parkway, narcotics arrest - Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle chasing a female during the late hours of the night in the area of South State Parkway and Love Road. Their investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man from Grand Island for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree (a class A misdemeanor) and unlawful possession of marijuana. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Baseline Road, parking violation - Deputies responded to a report of vehicles parked illegally in the fire lane at a local church. Deputies located numerous vehicles parked in the fire lane and advised the owners to move them.

•Bedell Road, loud music - A complainant stated that a television was being played loudly in his apartment complex. Deputies spoke to the occupant of the apartment in question and advised her.

Monday, Nov. 5

•Whitehaven Road, residential fire - Erie County Sheriff's Office fire investigators assisted the Grand Island Fire Co. for a report of a residential fire. One subject was transported to a local hospital with seemingly not life-threatening injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

•Jamestown Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that she received harassing phone calls from an unknown person.

Tuesday, Nov. 6

•Baseline Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone) stole various items from a construction site in the area. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Huth Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that a dog was running loose in the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

•Staley Road, larceny - A complainant stated that sometime in recent days a bank check in her name was stolen and cashed. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Bedell Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that several youths were playing football on the lawn of an apartment complex. Deputies located the youths and advised them.

•Bedell Road, animal loose - A complainant stated he found a loose dog in the area. The dog control officer was notified. The complainant was able to find the owner of the dog and return it.

Wednesday, Nov. 7

•Grand Island Boulevard, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was swerving in traffic. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Winkler Drive, wire down - Deputies responded to a report of wires down on Winkler Drive. Verizon was notified.

•West River Road, animal loose - A complainant stated she found a loose dog in the area. The dog control officer was notified.

•Second Street, animal loose - A complainant stated he found a loose dog in the area. The dog control officer was notified.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious person was hanging out behind a strip plaza business. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

•Stony Point Road, fraud - A complainant stated that someone attempted to open a credit card in his name. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Huth Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that his children reported seeing a suspicious-looking male near the Huth Elementary School near the end of the school day. Deputies remind members of the public to report any behavior they deem suspicious to the police immediately.

•Bedell Road, loud music - A complainant stated that a television was being played loudly in his apartment complex. Deputies spoke to the occupant of the apartment in question and advised her.

•Carl Road, animal complaint - A complainant stated that an animal had entered her garage and appeared to be injured. Deputies found the animal and relocated it to the wooded area behind the residence.

•Grand Island Boulevard, open door - Employees of a business nearby reported that a door was open to an adjoining business that was closed for the night. Deputies checked the business and the open door appeared to be an oversight.

Thursday, Nov. 8

•West River Road, driving while intoxicated - Following a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident, deputies arrested a 21-year-old man from Grand Island for driving while ability impaired by drugs and other traffic infractions. The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that several subjects had shut off the power to all the units in an apartment complex. Upon fleeing the apartment building, the subjects smashed numerous pumpkins. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects.

Friday, Nov. 9

•Alvin Road, burglary - An employee of an automobile dealership stated that while he was working in the mechanic shop he heard the sound of glass breaking. He observed two male subjects attempting to enter the business, and he confronted them. The subjects then fled the premises. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Whitetail Run, suspicious person - A complainant stated that two suspicious males were sitting in a vehicle in front of her home. Deputies checked and were able to determine the subjects to be workers of a roofing company that was doing work in the area.

•Blackmon Road, residential burglary - A complainant stated that it appeared his neighbor's home had been broken into. Deputies on scene reported a broken window to the residence and were able to make contact with the homeowner. The homeowner reported numerous items missing. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Bedell Road, suspicious incident - An employee of an apartment complex reported a strong odor of marijuana was coming from an unknown apartment in the complex. Deputies checked but were unable to locate any source of a marijuana smell.

•Whitehaven Road, warrant arrest - Deputies arrested a 21-year-old man from Grand Island after serving a bench warrant from the Town of Tonawanda. The man was turned over to the custody of the Town of Tonawanda Police Department.
