WBBZ and ME TV support Red Cross relief efforts

As cleanup efforts continue in parts of New York, New Jersey, and other states impacted by Hurricane Sandy, Western New York's hometown television station, WBBZ-TV, has joined with the ME TV network in supporting the work of the American Red Cross. Public service announcements encouraging people to donate to the American Red Cross are on the air locally, and the ME TV network of classic television.

WBBZ supports the work of Executive Director Nancy Blaschak and the Buffalo Chapter of the American Red Cross. A link to the chapter is online atwww.wbbz.tv.

Those interested can make a donation at 786 Delaware Ave., Buffalo. The local number is 716-886-7500.

According to the Red Cross website, more than 25,000 people have been living in shelters since Saturday in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The area is suffering from widespread power outages, wind damage and significant flooding from Sandy. More than 9,000 people have stayed in 171 Red Cross shelters across 13 states. More than 100,800 meals and snacks have been served.

Financial donations help the Red Cross provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to those affected by disasters such as Hurricane Sandy, as well as countless crises at home and around the world.

WBBZ Vice President and General Manager Bob Koshinski said, "Western New Yorkers pull together in times of need, and now the people on the East Coast need our assistance. Everyone at WBBZ-TV is proud to do our part and help make a difference."
