Tomcats division champs again

The Niagara Wheatfield Amateur Athletics Tomcats ended their regular season at the top of the heap Oct. 19 after shutting out Williamsville Navy 33-0, ending their regular season undefeated and as the Niagara Youth Football League division champs for the second year in a row.

The Tomcats defense was led by Tristan Vandenburg, who had eight tackles, four of them for losses, and Donovan Brusino, who had six tackles, five of them for losses, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Aaron Poe and Noah Bennett both had three tackles and one sack. Jamel Oliver had three tackles with one for a loss. Jordan Parks had two tackles and a fumble recovery.

Jake DeWolf, Brandon Higgins, Austin Osetkowski and Zach Stanley played a strong game for the Tomcats defense, which only gave up 21 yards on the day.

The Tomcats offense was led by Parks, who scored three touchdowns on the day and finished with 71 yards. Oliver led the team in rushing with 75 yards. Vandenburg rushed for a touchdown and scored an extra point. Stanley also scored a touchdown and finished with 43 yards rushing. DeWolf and Noah Bennett added the extra points for the Tomcats. The Tomcats finished with 247 yards rushing for the day.

With their 7-0 regular season record, the Tomcats will receive the top seed for the division playoffs.
