Holiday Happenings at Golden Age Center

The Grand Island Golden Age Club will hold its annual Holiday Happenings on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event, which will take place at the Golden Age Center in Nike Base Park, 3278 Whitehaven Road, will feature crafts, a bake sale, theme baskets, gifts and a hot dog sale. Donations of new or slightly new items for the bazaar will be welcomed. The center will open at 9 a.m. for crafters to visit and set up their tables. Donations of baked goods may be dropped off anytime after 9 a.m.

Friday, Oct. 12: Souper Seniors

Monday, Oct. 15: Reuben sandwich, pasta salad and apple sauce

Tuesday, Oct. 16: hobo pack, hamburger patty, potatoes, veggies and a side of cole slaw

Wednesday, Oct. 17: hot chicken casserole and a side of beets (2 p.m. - root beer floats for $2.25)

Thursday, Oct. 18: crusted meat pie, fruit cup

Friday, Oct. 19: Souper Seniors

October Events

•Thursday, Oct. 18 - The Golden Age Club's executive board will meet at 12:45 p.m.

•Friday, Oct. 19 - The Brown Bag Medication Review will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants can bag up prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements and take them to the center to receive tips for safe and effective medication use and tools to keep track of medications.

•Thursday, Oct. 25 - A general meeting of the Golden Age Club will take place at lunchtime.

•Thursday, Oct. 25 - A nurse from ElderWood Health Care at Riverwood will be at the center from 10 to 11:30 a.m. to check blood pressures.

•Monday, Oct. 29 - The Travel Club will meet at 10 a.m. and final decisions will be made for 2013 travel. Travelers can attend with checkbook in hand to make deposits.

•Wednesday, Oct. 31 - A prize for the most original costume will be awarded at the Halloween party.

•Autumn walkabouts take place, weather permitting, for about an hour each Wednesday at 10 a.m. Call Sally Waterson for details at 773-5531. Upcoming walkabouts include: Oct. 17, Sunset Drive; Oct. 24, Beaver Island; Oct. 31, Golden Age path.
