Going orange

October means pumpkins, and there's plenty of local spots to pick out the perfect specimen for carving or decorating.

Jim Devantier's Pumpkin Farm, 6922 Nash Road, Wheatfield, goes a step more. The farm not only has pumpkins in all shapes and sizes, but also has a host of things for children to do and opportunities for family photos. Youngsters can feed the goats or meet a cow named Nellie, a pair of pigs, a turkey, rabbits and chickens. There's a corn (not sand) box to play in, a haunted house, a wagon ride and a bit of history.

The sign says Nashville, N.Y., not Wheatfield. Nashville was the former name of that area of Nash Road north of Niagara Falls Boulevard. (photos by Walter Bissett)
