Lineup includes eight local leadership experts along with keynote speaker Lisa Oz

Some of Western New York's biggest names in the field of leadership will pass on their skills and expertise to women from across the region during Buffalo's first women's leadership conference to be sponsored by the American Business Women's Association of Western New York.

"The New Normal with Lisa Oz" will be held Oct. 18 at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Buffalo. Tickets for the daylong conference are $129 until Oct. 17. Walk-in registrants on the day of the conference are welcome to attend for $149. To register to attend, visit www.abwawny.com.

One of the featured local experts is Althea Luehrsen, executive director of Leadership Buffalo.

"As women leaders, we have much in common," she said. "We have experienced challenges on the road to success that differ from our male counterparts. This conference will provide an excellent opportunity to share these experiences and celebrate our successes with each other so that we can continue to learn and grow."

The keynote speaker is Lisa Oz, who will speak at length on how to build strong and lasting relationships in one's personal and professional life. Her presentation will take conference attendees on a transformational journey as she explores the three relationships that matter most: with the self, with others, and with the divine.

Besides the keynote presentation, the conference features eight local leadership experts who will conduct professional development sessions throughout the day:

  • Mary Anne Cappellino, wellness director at the Buffalo Athletic Club - "5 Steps to Get Better Than Ever"

  • Michael Cardus, principal consultant of Create-Learning Team Building & Leadership Inc. - "The Demystification of Leadership - An interactive examination of what leadership is and how you can leverage your skills and competencies to improve your organization, team and self"

  • Sue Cody-Leous, senior vice president of Fidelity Investment Institutional Services Company Inc. - "Facing the Retirement Challenge"

  • Lisa A. Coppola, partner and trial attorney with Rupp, Baase, Pfalzgraf, Cunningham, Coppola LLC - "Cover Your Assets!"

  • Dr. David Kurss, founder and medical director of the Women's Wellness Center - "Wellness for Working Women - A medical approach to balancing the mind, body and spirit"

  • Althea E. Luehrsen, executive director of Leadership Buffalo - "The Bag Lady"

  • Lori E. Miller, owner and president of Developing Professionals - "What is your Brand to Life"

  • Amy Remmele, owner, and Mary Beth Vogt, partner, of Peak of Success - "The Hardcore Soft Skill

of Balancing Your Life: When the balls in the air are soft, it hurts a lot less when they land on your head!"

Coppola, a partner and trial attorney with Rupp, Baase, Pfalzgraf, Cunningham, Coppola, will speak on protecting assets.

"While the conference draws a cross-section of women from a variety of backgrounds and businesses, the common theme is how we can continue to improve and grow, whether it is learning about strategies to protect our assets, determining one small change to make each month or in networking with one another. Every business woman will come away from this conference energized," she said.

According to Cardus, the New Normal is a return to exploring the beliefs and theories of work and "what motivates people to follow leaders and move together cooperatively with enthusiasm to achieve a shared goal."

Cardus will speak about the demystification of leadership during his professional development session at the conference.

"The New Normal is a system that drives behaviors. If you are seeing outcomes that you don't want then we must examine the system that created that behavior. This will force you to face what you believe versus evidence, and one of those has to win," he said.
