Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center plans health care conference for women

For the fifth consecutive year, Mount St. Mary's Hospital will host "A Conference on Healthcare for Women" to raise awareness among women in the local community on a wide array of issues and actions that can help improve their health. This year's daylong conference is Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Conference Center Niagara Falls. The event features entertaining speakers, a luncheon, and health information displays.

Registration is $15 for the entire conference, $5 for students, and advance registration is encouraged, as space is limited to the first 350 registrants.

The day opens at 8 a.m. with registration and a healthy continental breakfast. At 9 a.m. the conference will begin with remarks by Mount St. Mary's President and CEO Judith Maness. Mary Jo Hunt of Hunt Real Estate is the keynote speaker, and Tammie Lee Demler is the emcee.

Hunt is the director of career development at Hunt. She is responsible for the design and implementation of the HUNT Leadership Development Program, where she is the primary instructor/trainer/facilitator. Hunt utilizes her wealth of experience in educational and nonprofit environments to facilitate organizational development.

At 10:15 a.m., there will be a series of informational displays and demonstrations, including:

• Exercise: yoga/meditation and Zumba - Laura Vendryes and Kayla Fyfe

• Hair chateau - Tammy L. Bundrock - DeVoe

• Foot checks - Dr. Jude Violante (podiatrist) and Lois Violante

• Child care safety seats - Niagara Falls Police Department

• RD Woodykins Creations - Lorelie Luther

• Jewelry - Small Indulgences - Mary Ann Culbert

• Holistic therapies - Ami Patrick - Embody Health & Wellness

• BMI and blood pressure screening

At 11 a.m., there will be information sessions and demonstrations including:

•Session A) "Women's Health - Current Screening Guidelines" with Dr. Sharmilee Thota, OB/GYN; Dr. Rachel Weselak, OB/GYN

•Session B) "Spiritual Health" with the Rev. Lora Allen

•Session C) "How to Take Care of Yourself While Taking Care of Others" with Sister Diane Gianadda; Teresa Maciocha, Women's Respite Program

•Session D) "Advance Healthcare Directives - Hospice and Palliative Care" with Dr. Sarina Bax-Debiaso

•Session E) "Treatments of Urinary Incontinence and Pelvic Problems" with Dr. Samuel Saleeb

•Session F) "Wine and Food Pairing" with Joseph Scarcelli, Ph.D., Niagara University

•Session G) "You're Not Crazy ... Common Hormonal Issues in Women" with Cathi Stack, Journey 11 Health

At noon, the luncheon will feature a special menu highlighting healthy aspects in foods and food preparation, including recipes, nutrition facts, and antioxidant properties. The morning sessions will be repeated in the afternoon to allow attendees to visit other demonstrations and presentations. The conference adjourns at 2:30 p.m.
