Congressional candidate Mike Madigan of Grand Island said he is pleased to hear his opponent "has suddenly announced the granting of approximately $1 million in federal money" to the neighborhood surrounding Madigan's campaign headquarters.

The Madigan campaign said the announcement of the grant by Congressman Brian Higgins featured the Madigan for Congress headquarters building. Madigan stated that the grant money will be used to improve the safety and security in the neighborhood, "and I'm greatly pleased to see this area finally gaining much needed attention."

He said Higgins "ignores the east side of Buffalo. In contrast, that is where my focus is, and this is what must be fixed first in this congressional district in order to make things right."

"I'm pleased to see attention being shifted away from the waterfront, which seems to be the purpose of the Higgins campaign, and onto what our campaign views as crucial," Madigan said, citing inner-city crime and the failure to educate Buffalo students.

The Madigan for Congress campaign is headquartered in the Buffalo east side around Bailey and Kensington avenues. Madigan is the Republican, Conservative and Independent candidate for the newly reapportioned Congressional District 26, which includes Grand Island and all of Buffalo.
