Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Sept. 21, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 183 calls from Sept. 8 to 14. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 15 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Sept. 8

•Ward Park Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a residence in the neighborhood. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the homeowner.

•Baseline Road, refer to patrol - A complainant stated that, while he was walking in the area, he detected a strong smell of natural gas. Deputies assisted the Grand Island Fire Co. in the matter.

•East River Road, wire down - A complainant stated a wire was down and blocking the roadway. Deputies notified National Grid and assisted the Grand Island Fire Co.

•Baseline Road, road obstruction - A complainant stated a large tree was down and blocking the roadway. A neighbor had removed most of the tree that was blocking the roadway. The Grand Island Highway Department was notified.

•West River Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle drove down the street several times. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Baseline Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Whitehaven Road, deer struck - A complainant stated that a deer appeared to have been struck by a vehicle and was injured on the side of the road.

•Fix Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a residence in the neighborhood. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the homeowner.

•Stony Point Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a residence in the neighborhood. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the homeowner.

•Town Hall Terrace, welfare check - A complainant stated that a male was stumbling in the parking lot of the apartment complex and was possibly intoxicated. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the male.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated a suspicious male was lying next to a fence in a yard. Deputies located the male, who claimed to be lost. The male was assisted to the bus stop.

Sunday, Sept. 9

•Woodlee Lane, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a residence in the neighborhood late at night. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the homeowner.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious person - Deputies located a male subject riding a bicycle late at night. The subject was advised.

•Blackmon Road, fight - Several complainants state that a fight was taking place in the street. Deputies located the parties involved, who admitted to having a dispute. No charges were filed.

•Love Road, drunk driving - Following an investigation of a fight call on Blackmon Road, deputies arrested a 22-year-old man from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated. The man was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree after a Department of Motor Vehicles check showed his license was currently suspended. The subject registered a .16 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

•Warner Drive, larceny - A complainant stated, that sometime during the night, someone stole various items from her unlocked vehicle.

•Waterford Park, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a suspicious male subject was entering neighbors' cars in the area late at night. The complainant confronted the subject, who fled the area. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject. The subject was described as a white male, medium build, with short, spiky dark hair. Nothing was reported missing from the vehicles the complainant witnessed the subject enter. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Crescent Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from his unlocked vehicle. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Monday, Sept. 10

•East River Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime during recent days, someone keyed his vehicle and caused damage.

•Enola Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from his unlocked vehicle. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Waterford Park, attempted break-in - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone attempted to break into his home. Deputies observed damage to a rear door to the home, but determined entry was not made. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Wednesday, Sept. 12

•Baseline Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 26-year-old man from Grand Island for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree after a DMV check showed his license was currently suspended. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

•Fix Road, wire down - Deputies responded to a report of wires down in the roadway. National Grid was notified.

•Bedell Road, wire down - Deputies responded to a report of wires down in the roadway. National Grid was notified.

•Long Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that she received a suspicious letter from an Internet company to send money for an item she had not purchased. The complainant was sure it was a scam and was advised by patrol.

•Whitehaven Road, wire down - Deputies responded to a report of wires down in the roadway. The wire was identified as a phone line, and was removed from the roadway.

•Whitehaven Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole various items off the exterior of a building.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that an intoxicated male was walking on Grand Island Boulevard. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the subject.

Thursday, Sept. 13

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that several subjects were seen around the Grand Island Fire Station. Deputies located the subjects, who were setting up the station for voting.

•Baseline Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole various items from his trailer. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Baseline Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Staley Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Park Lane, larceny - A complainant stated that someone stole a bicycle from his front yard sometime during the day.

•North Lane, youth activity - A complainant stated that a group of youths were hanging out on the street and appeared to be up to no good. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the youths.

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - Deputies located a suspicious person with a flashlight walking late at night. The subject was walking home from a friend's house.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated a suspicious vehicle was parked in a vacant lot and appeared to be occupied. Deputies located the vehicle and advised the subjects inside. The subjects left without incident.

Friday, Sept. 14

•River Oaks Drive, youth activity - A complainant stated a group of youths were in the street late at night. Deputies located the youths and advised them.

•Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Bedell Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent months, someone damaged his vehicle.

•Love Road, larceny - An employee at Kaegebein Elementary School stated that, sometime during the day, someone stole her purse.

•Baseline Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Baseline Road, drunk driving - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 62-year-old man from Des Moines, Iowa, for driving while intoxicated. The man registered a .18 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. He was further charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated due to the elevated reading. He was transported to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $250 bail.
