Businesses, organizations and residents are encouraged to enter
Promote your business, organization, or community in the 2012 Niagara River Region Scarecrow Display. Artistic interpretations of a variety of scarecrows will line the main streets of Lewiston, Sanborn, Ransomville and Youngstown from Oct. 1 through Halloween. Organizers invite your business, organization or resident to create a scarecrow to display along the main streets in the Niagara River Region.
Eligible applicants include a) private business owners/staff, b) community and civic organizations, c) not-for-profit agencies, d) schools, colleges and universities and e) residents of the four participating communities.
Judging will take place the week of Oct. 15 through 19 and is based on creativity, originality and quality of workmanship. Prizes include first place, chosen in each of the four communities as well as one overall prize of "Best in Show" for the entire Niagara River Region. The entry fee is $35 and entry forms, rules and procedures are available at the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce office (100 N. Third St.)
Completed entry forms should be submitted to the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce no later than Sept. 28.

Last year, the overall winner was "Rachel Rake" created by Warren's Village Hardware, located at 185 Portage Road in the Village of Lewiston. Additional winners from 2011 include: Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater, created by the Sanborn Area Historical Society; The Scary Shopper created by Melloni's Market Place; Blue Streak created by First Niagara Bank of Ransomville; and Piper's Sleepy Hollow created by Pipers' Village Inn.
