Erie County Sheriff's Office Reports for Sept. 14, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 212 calls from Sept. 1 to 7. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 20 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Sept. 1

•Grand Island Boulevard, drunk driving - Deputies responded to a report of a female attempting to sell drugs in a tavern parking lot. Their investigation led to the arrest of a 43-year-old woman from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated. The woman refused to submit a sample of her breath for chemical analysis. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court and she was released to a sober third party.

•Bush Road, drunk driving - Deputies responded to a report of a motor vehicle that crashed into a residence on Bush Road. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 29-year-old man from Grand Island for DWI and other traffic infractions. The man refused to submit a sample of his breath for chemical analysis and was transported to a local area hospital with seemingly not life-threatening injuries. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

•Baseline Road, wires down - Deputies responded to a report of low-hanging wires that were obstructing traffic. National Grid was notified.

•Grand Island Boulevard, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle cut her off and was speeding down the roadway. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that while he was inside a water park someone stole his cell phone.

•Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Baseline Road, hit-and-run accident - A complainant stated that a dark-colored vehicle rear-ended him, and then sped off. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Sunday, Sept. 2

•Love Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that a vehicle was driving down the road and smashing mailboxes. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - Employees at a pizzeria stated that two males were sitting outside of the restaurant and occupying tables meant for customers. Deputies located the subjects and advised them.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Staley Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that while she was working in an amusement park someone stole her cell phone.

•Pin Oak Circle, fireworks use - A complainant stated that fireworks were being used in the area. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the source of the fireworks.

•Waterford Park loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a party in the neighborhood. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the homeowner to turn it down.

•Broadway shots fired - A complainant stated that he heard subjects in the yards on Broadway, and then he heard three shots fired in the area. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects.

•Huth Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that several youths were running through the neighborhood and throwing things at vehicles. Deputies located several subjects in the area but were unable to determine if they were involved.

•East River Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a pickup truck was swerving all over the road. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Monday, Sept. 3

•Calvano Drive, property found - A complainant stated that he found a wallet and wanted to turn it over to patrol. Deputies were able to contact the owner and return the property.

•Grand Island Boulevard, disorderly person - Employees at an amusement park stated that a subject was becoming disorderly in the park. The subject left without incident prior to patrol's arrival.

•North Colony Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole his mailbox.

•Staley Road, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a large bird seemed to be injured on the side of the roadway. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the animal.

Tuesday, Sept. 4

•Harvey Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious male was walking through people's front yards during the early hours of the morning. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

•Ransom Road, assault - A complainant stated that, while she was at Grand Island High School, a known person assaulted her. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a juvenile offender from Grand Island for assault in the third degree (a class A misdemeanor). The juvenile offender was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court and released to the custody of her mother.

•East River Road, animal injury - A complainant stated that a large turtle appeared to have been hit by a car. Deputies removed the turtle from the roadway.

Wednesday, Sept. 5

•Whitehaven Road, deer struck - A complainant stated that an injured deer was in the roadway. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the deer.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Stony Point Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Stony Point Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated a suspicious bag was on a park bench with no one around it. Deputies located the bag, which contained a bowling ball.

•Love Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Fix Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole a brass sprinkler from his lawn.

Thursday, Sept. 6

•Alt Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that someone stole a laptop that had been delivered earlier in the day. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Baseline Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that he found a loose dog running through the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

•Baseline Road, marijuana possession - Following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, deputies arrested a 22-year-old man from Grand Island for unlawful possession of marijuana (a violation) and traffic infractions. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

•Ferry Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious male was walking on Ferry Road during the late evening hours. Deputies located the subject, who was walking home from a local business.

Friday, Sept. 7

•East River Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that two male subjects were walking around a marina and looked suspicious. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects.

•Carl Road, suspicious person - Deputies located several subjects at the playground on Carl Road late at night. The subjects were advised and left the premise. No damage was observed.

•Grand Island Boulevard, refer to patrol - A complainant stated that construction workers were using heavy machinery at a bank late at night. Deputies advised the workers, who ceased using the loud machinery.
