As part of the YMCA's commitment to the community, the Y has teamed up with the Food Bank of WNY and WGRZ-TV Channel 2 to help give back to those in need right here in Western New York. Beginning Nov. 1, all YMCA Buffalo Niagara Branches and YMCA Buffalo Niagara's corporate office will begin taking donations of non-perishable items for the Food Bank of WNY.

Last year, the Y was able to collect enough food to provide 2,241 meals for area families. This year, organizers would like to challenge Western New Yorkers to help provide 6,000 meals.

Donations will be accepted until Nov. 21, and participants in the YMCA Turkey Trot are encouraged to bring cans with them to packet pick-up at the Delaware YMCA Nov. 19 to 21.

"The Food Bank of WNY is excited to be partnering, once again, with the YMCA's annual Turkey Trot. Last year's participants generously donated non-perishables, which were distributed throughout the holiday season to those who rely on us. This year, the numbers of those seeking assistance from us have grown from 31,000 to 36,000 households. The Food Bank of WNY is truly grateful to be a part of this wonderful event," said Marylou Borowiak, president and CEO of the Food Bank of WNY.

Donation locations include the Niagara Falls YMCA, 1317 Portage Rd, Niagara Falls (716-285-8491).
