Robert Christmann, Grand Island superintendent of schools, will serve as the honorary chairperson of this year's Grand Island CROP Walk. The Sunday, Oct. 14, event aims to help stop hunger and poverty on Grand Island and around the world.

"I wanted to be involved," said Christmann, "because Community Response to Overcoming Poverty (CROP) has a proven track record of helping people to help themselves. Twenty-five percent of all money raised by CROP Walks stays right here on Grand Island, half going to the Neighbors Foundation and half to support local church food pantries."

The coordinator of Grand Island CROP Walks for some years, the Rev. Paul Robinson, says that "Individuals can get involved by walking or pledging to support a walker. We're also working to encourage local businesses to sponsor the walk, both financially, with in-kind donations, and by walking themselves."

The CROP Walk committee is actively preparing for this year's walk and will be promoting it across the Island. Each year the CROP Walk raises between $3,000 and $6,000. This year the walk will again be held within the Beaver Island State Park. For more information, go onlinehttp://www.CROPhelpsGI.info, or call 716-876-0133.
