Says 'We want America to be great again'

Press release

Niagara County Republican Chairman Michael J. Norris released the following statement Thursday evening from the floor of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, where he was awaiting Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's acceptance speech:

"What a night. I am standing here on the convention floor, alongside my friend, Erie County GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy and New York State Republican Chairman Ed Cox, and we're waiting for Mitt Romney to take the stage and give his big address. Earlier this afternoon, he and Paul Ryan came out on stage for some photos with their campaign staff, and the mood in the convention hall was electric.

"This convention has been a really serious, and really upbeat, affair for us - as Republicans and as Americans. Last night's speeches by Paul Ryan, our next vice president, and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who remains one of the classiest Republican leaders out there, really got to the heart of what we stand for as a party.

"My friends and neighbors back in Western New York need to understand that this election is about two different visions for America. Do we want to be an America where 8.3 percent unemployment is 'the new norm,' where 23 million American men and women are struggling to find work - either unemployed or underemployed?

"Do we want an America where an 'Obamacare' system no one wanted robs our parents and grandparents on Medicare of $718 billion, and surely breaks the Medicare promise to them?

"Do we want an America where our $16 trillion debt is what we pass on to our children, instead of the strongest, greatest and most compassionate nation the world has ever known?

"We want America to be great again. Mitt Romney will be calling for the same thing tonight. I hope my friends and neighbors are listening. And I hope they're willing to give him their support.

"Tomorrow, I fly back to Buffalo, back to Lockport. And the work of the campaign is ahead. I hope Mitt Romney's message of unity, and of making America work again, continues to resonate. It's the one I'll be sharing with my neighbors."
