Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Aug. 24, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 176 calls from Aug. 4 to 10. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 11 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Aug. 4

•Pleasant Trail, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a house in the neighborhood late at night. Deputies located the house and advised the occupants to turn the music down.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•East River Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Sandpiper Lane, fireworks use - A complainant stated that someone was using fireworks in the area. Deputies checked but were unable to locate anyone using fireworks.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that while he was an amusement park, someone entered his vehicle and attempted to steal items. At the time of this report, no items were listed as missing.

•West River Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was speeding down West River Road. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Queens Drive, accident with injury - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. One person was transported to a local hospital with seemingly minor injuries.

•First Street, suspicious incident - A complainant stated she thought she heard a person attempting to break into her residence. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects. No damage to the residence was observed.

Sunday, Aug. 5

•East River Road, residential burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, an unknown person or persons broke into a residence and stole a sum of money. The suspects were able to gain entry by prying open a window. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, reckless operation - A complainant stated a vehicle was swerving all over the road. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Bedell Road, all-terrain vehicle operation - A complainant stated that numerous ATVs were operating in Veterans Park. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the ATVs.

•Bedell Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious male subject had approached some young females while in Veterans Park. Deputies located the subject, who stated he was in the park watching his son's soccer game. The subject was advised.

•Sheree Drive, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a group of youths seemed to be attempting to break into a residence. Deputies were able to determine that the subjects were friends with a male who lived in the house. The subjects were advised.

Monday, Aug. 6

•West River Road, attempted break-in - A complainant stated that he was awakened at night by sounds coming from the front of his residence. The complainant saw someone with a flashlight near the house, and scared off the subject. When he checked outside he noticed a screen door had been sliced and a window was pushed in. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•East River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone put feces on his vehicle. No damage was observed.

•Baseline Road, accident with injury - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, deputies found one unconscious female who was trapped in her vehicle. The Grand Island Fire Co. responded to extricate the victim. The female driver was transported to Erie County Medical Center and was listed in critical condition. The other driver was transported to a local hospital with seemingly minor injuries. The Erie County Sheriff's Office Accident Investigation Unit responded, and the cause of the crash is under investigation.

•Riverdale Drive, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a dog in the neighborhood appeared to be in distress. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the dog. The dog control officer was notified.

•Whitehaven Road, animal complaint - A complainant stated a dog was running loose in the area. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the dog. The dog control officer was notified.

•Brandywine Drive, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in front of his residence late at night and appeared to be occupied. Deputies located the vehicle and spoke to the driver, who stated she was waiting for a friend. The subject was advised.

•Bedell Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that he came home from work to find two bicycles missing from his yard. Deputies were able to locate the bicycles in nearby yards.

Tuesday, Aug. 7

•Baseline Road, drunk - A complainant stated a female was stumbling down the road, possibly intoxicated. Deputies located the female and transported her back to her residence.

•Stony Point Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Love Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during recent hours, someone stole a gas grill from a yard.

•Baseline Road, accident with injury - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle. The passenger of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital with seemingly minor injuries.

•West River Parkway, road obstruction - A complainant stated that a muffler was in the roadway on West River Parkway. Deputies removed the muffler from the road.

•Winter Road, property found - A complainant stated that a possible stolen bicycle was sitting next to a dumpster for about a week. Deputies brought the bicycle to the Grand Island Substation.

•Bishops Gate Road, ATV operation - A complainant stated that ATVs were driving in the road and on private property. Deputies located the ATVs and advised the operators.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious male was walking around construction equipment near a supermarket. Deputies located the male, who was an employee, that was repairing the construction vehicles.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located an unoccupied vehicle parked in a television station parking lot. No subjects were around the vehicle and no damage was observed.

Wednesday, Aug. 8

•Elsie Lane, Lasalle Avenue, Red Jacket Road, larceny - A complainant who resides on Elsie Lane stated that he found the dome light on in his vehicle, and items were missing. The complainant stated the incident occurred within the last 15 minutes. Deputies checked the area and were able to find four juvenile offenders (two residing on Grand Island and two residing in Buffalo) who were responsible for multiple reports of larcenies in the neighborhood. Deputies charged each of the juvenile offenders with conspiracy in the sixth degree (a class B misdemeanor), seven counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree (a class A misdemeanor) and seven counts of petit larceny (a class A misdemeanor). Two of the juvenile offenders (ages 17) were transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending arraignment in Town of Grand Island Court. The other two juvenile offenders (ages 15 and 14) were issued appearance tickets returnable to Erie County Family Court and released to the custody of their parents.

•Greenway Road, marijuana arrest - Complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in front of his residence late at night. Deputies located the vehicle with four occupants inside. Their investigation led to the arrest of two juvenile offenders for unlawful possession of marijuana (violations). The juvenile offenders were issued appearance tickets returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•East River Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated a vehicle was running stop signs on East River Road. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Beaver Island State Park, disorderly person - Deputies were flagged down by a complainant regarding disorderly subjects in the park. Deputies located the subjects and advised them.

Thursday, Aug. 9

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a subject was sleeping in his car in a supermarket parking lot. Deputies located the subject and advised him. The subject left without incident.

•Gregory Place, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone keyed his vehicle. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•I-190 motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had broken down.

•West River Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a party in the neighborhood. Deputies located the party and advised the subjects.

Friday, Aug. 10

•South State Parkway, accident with injury - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident involving a semi-truck. Multiple people were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries. The Erie County Sheriff's Office Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene, and the cause of the crash is under investigation.

•Ferry Road, open door - A complainant stated that an open door was seen at a business in the area. Deputies were able to secure the door and notified the owner of the incident.
