More than 300 Lewiston-Porter Elementary School students will take a field trip to Academy Park this October to participate in the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Queenston Heights, which was the first major battle of the War of 1812 (when the U.S. invaded Canada from Lewiston).

Volunteers from Lewiston and Queenston are joining hands to host the largest 1812 binational event in North America this year, which will attract hundreds of re-enactors from all over the U.S. and Canada. A large-scale cannon bombardment from the Lewiston riverfront is planned for Friday evening, Oct. 12.
