More hope for air base

On July 31, the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense passed the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, which included language that would enact a one-year strategic pause for Air Force structure adjustments. This would prevent cuts to the Air National Guard and protect installations like the 107th Airlift Wing at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.

"This is another critical step in the direction of preserving the Niagara Air Base and bringing a new mission to the area," said Rep. Kathy Hochul, NY-26. "As the sole military installation in Western New York and the largest employer in Niagara County, the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station plays a vital role in protecting the security of our nation, our region, and our local communities. I continue to urge the Senate to pass the bill without delay."

In recent months, Hochul has led the fight in the House to push back on these cuts, meeting senior military leadership and working closely with the Western New York Congressional delegation to ensure the 107th Airlift Wing maintains a strong presence at NFARS.
