Over past four years, nearly 100,000 pounds of material collected; $1,000 donation made to Educational Technology Foundation of WNY

Press release

Shatter I.T. and Sunnking Electronics, in partnership with six other local Buffalo businesses - EMCS, WKBW Channel 7, WBEN, Ozone Design, Business First and Rich's - hosted the fourth annual "ecyclebflo" event in Lafayette Square on Tuesday, June 26. Area residents and businesses brought 29,342 pounds of old or unwanted electronics for responsible recycling. A $1,000 donation was made to the Educational Technology Foundation of WNY, whose efforts are aimed at increasing the access and equity of technology in education, especially to under-served populations.

In addition to the electronics recycling, participants were given the opportunity to smash old printers and copiers with a sledgehammer in the "Shatter Zone" alongside Sabretooth and Buster Bison.

"This annual event gives downtown businesses a convenient way to properly recycle their obsolete electronics. In its first four years, 'ecyclebflo' has collected - and responsibly recycled - nearly 100,000 pounds of old electronics. Together with our partners, we are discussing a number of ways we can further enhance the 'ecyclebflo' event in 2013 to reach even more businesses and collect even more waste," said Peter Ronca, Shatter's president and CEO. " 'ecyclebflo' proved to be a success again this year. It is a fun event to be a part of and great to see that a group of great businesses could get together once again to benefit the Educational Technology Foundation of WNY. We look forward to expanding this program in the future to help increase the availability of technology in schools and local communities."
