Niagara Hospice director of volunteer services, Alice Beck, recently announced several new volunteer opportunities with Niagara Hospice and the Niagara Hospice Alliance.

"We are looking for men, women and teens who want to make a difference in the lives of Niagara County residents as they make their final journey," Beck said. New positions include patient-related and non-patient related jobs. Volunteers are especially needed to assist in music and pet visits with patients at Hospice at Jeanne's House - a Northgate and Niagara Hospice collaboration in North Tonawanda.

Beck states that the music and pet visits have been a huge success with area hospice patients and that more pet owners and musicians are needed for Jeanne's House. Volunteers are also needed to read to residents and help with arts, crafts and other activities at the 7264 Nash Road location.

Beck also said bakers are needed for Niagara Hospice House. "If you enjoy baking please consider helping. This is a great opportunity to share your culinary skills where they will be very much appreciated."

Additionally, the Niagara Hospice Alliance - established in 2009 to support the services and programs associated with the charitable mission of Niagara Hospice - is on the search for a core group of volunteers. Beck said volunteers are needed to assist with special events, fundraising, administrative duties at Alliance offices now located at the Niagara Hospice Resource Center in the Ulrich City Centre on Walnut Street in Lockport.
