It was like stepping back 200 years when the U.S. Brig Niagara sailed into the Niagara River on an unexpected visit late Tuesday afternoon. "The vessel was duly saluted by our guns," said Robert Emerson, executive director of Old Fort Niagara.

Based in Erie, Pa., the brig is a reproduction of the relief flagship of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry during the War of 1812.
