Press release

The Kenan Center in Lockport hosts summer programming for children and familes.

Sculpture-making for kids: Looking for something extra special for your artistically inclined kids to do this summer? The Kenan Center has a one-of-a-kind opportunity. It is working with the Ashford Hollow Foundation and Essex Street Arts Center to present a three-day-per-week program, July 9 and July 16, from 10 a.m. to noon, open to kids ages 10-12. The program is free, but space is limited, and participants will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Download an application form at www.kenancenter.org, or stop by the business office during the work week. Applications are due July 2. The completed large-scale sculptures will be unveiled at a public ceremony in September (all participants are invited). For more information, contact Alyssa Neglia at 716-433-2617, ext. 204, or email [email protected]. This project is funded by the estate of Wendy Gibson and the Grigg-Lewis Foundation.

"Lockport in Bloom": The Kenan Center is the starting point for this popular local event, which has more gardens to visit than ever on July 7 and 8. Stop here and pick up a map, and be sure to enjoy the beautiful Kenan gardens and the current exhibit, "Extraordinary Forms III: Focus on Fiber & Wood." "Lockport in Bloom" runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. "Extraordinary Forms III" continues through July 15.
Exhibit opening: Join in a free public reception from 7 until 9 p.m. on July 20 for the Biennial Niagara Frontier Art Exhibit. The show has taken place since 1967, and features Western New York artists and a variety of media. Support for the Kenan Center Gallery exhibits is provided by M&T Bank, the Grigg-Lewis Foundation, and the Randleigh Foundation.
