Brickyard, Grandpaws look forward to summer seasonby jmaloni
Village of Lewiston construction updates
by Alicia Wainwright
If you drive down Center Street in the Village of Lewiston and notice the construction on The Brickyard Pub & B.B.Q's patio, don't worry: They are not getting rid of it, they are building on to the current one. The Brickyard is adding a second floor to its patio.
The construction is in beginning stages. Brickyard manager Steve Matthews said, "We are shooting for before Memorial Day" for the project to be complete.
The new addition will be "more or less be a lounge area," Matthews said. No food will be served at the upstairs patio. The lounge will have a fireplace, so people can be comfortable at night.
Brickyard customers are "very excited," Matthews said. "It adds a new dimension to our restaurant and our patio business, which is definitely one of our strengths over the summer."
The Brickyard's next-door neighbor, Brio, is also constructing a new, two-story patio for the summer.
Grandpaws Pet Emporium has recently moved from Portage Road to 784 Center St. (formerly Telsat and Lewiston Music). The grand opening for the new location is on June 2, but the business is now open for business.
The pet emporium is expanding its product line and needed more space, which the building on Center Street provides. Also, Center Street offers more visibility.
Grandpaws also wants to take part in some of the festival activity that goes on in Lewiston in the summer.
Also of note:
•Katy Reese Design, currently located at 704 Center St., is moving to 744 Center St. (formerly Zeeter's Outdoor Stuff).
•Work continues at Taste!, the new wine bar located at 700 Center St. (formerly Amy K's Mystick Korner). The new wooden addition is expected to be used for retail, while apartments will be built behind and above the bar.
