Niagara County Public Information Officer Christian W. Peck issued the following statement Friday regarding allegations of improper conduct by Niagara County 4th District coroner Russell Jackman and an official from a local volunteer fire company:

I have been in contact with the clerk of the Niagara County Legislature and the chairman of the Legislature's Community Safety and Security Committee regarding Mr. Jackman's arrest. Both have been briefed fully by Niagara County Sheriff's Office officials regarding the allegations against Mr. Jackman, and both are concerned about the allegations against an elected official. I will note for the press that the clerk of the Legislature provides administrative support for the four elected coroners, but that the clerk of the Legislature's office has no role in any investigation of any allegations of misconduct. Any investigation will be conducted by the district attorney and the Niagara County Sheriff's Office. If and when the Legislature is provided information regarding the ongoing investigation, this office will share that information.
