The Lewiston Police Department announced this week it is now on Facebook, alongside many other law enforcement agencies around the community and the country, said LPD Chief Chris Salada.

He said the decision to make the department a Facebook page is an effort by LPD to keep the public better informed. The Lewiston Police routinely posts relevant information and updates. These updates include LPD events/services, major arrests/crime information, safety tips, upcoming community events and other information.

As such, LPD sees Facebook as an opportunity for the public to communicate with the department and see what is going on in their community and with their police department.

"A Facebook Page for the Lewiston Police Department is a great community relations tool. This page puts out information on what the Lewiston Police Department is doing, updates on certain activity in Lewiston and it does not cost the department any money to do this," Salada said.

LPD already has almost 200 'Likes' on Facebook. Visit its page at http://www.facebook.com/lewistonnypolice.
