Pledges to work together to move city forward

Assemblyman John D. Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, today praised the formation of the Niagara Falls City Council's "ad hoc" committee. The committee was formed to develop a strategy for the city to obtain funds from the Seneca Gaming compact. Funds have not been delivered to the city during a period of legal action between New York state and the Seneca Nation of Indians.

"I have met with the ad hoc committee formed by the Niagara Falls City Council and we have pledged to work together to find a resolution to this casino question that will allow the City of Niagara Falls to prosper," Ceretto said.

In addition to meeting with the ad hoc committee, Ceretto has written to Seneca Nation President Robert Odawi Porter, as well as Gov. Andrew Cuomo, asking for a progress report regarding the negotiations and seeking a way forward.

"With the Seneca Nation and New York state in arbitration, we must work as a city and as a region to find solutions," Ceretto said. "Niagara Falls is a third party beneficiary, in no way involved in this legal process. I've worked in the Assembly, and will continue to work to increase our local share of revenues. I pledge to work alongside city officials to make Niagara Falls whole again."
