Maziarz announces good news for Lockport Yahooby jmaloni
State Sen. George Maziarz, R-C, Newfane, has announced that Yahoo informed him that the Town of Lockport Yahoo facility is safe from the layoffs and is, in fact, going to consolidate and expand.
Yahoo announced this morning that it would lay off about 2,000 employees nationwide. This afternoon, Maziarz received a call from Yahoo Executive Vice President of Central Technology Dave Dibble who stated that not only would no one in the Town of Lockport facility lose their jobs, but the site would be one of two facilities nationwide where Yahoo would be consolidating and expanding services.
"This is fantastic news for the employees of the Town of Lockport Yahoo facility and the residents of Niagara County," Maziarz said. "Not only are all of the jobs safe in this area, but they have chosen the Town of Lockport as one of the facilities to expand their services and bring more jobs to Niagara County. "While this is a difficult day for our company, we knew that the Town of Lockport Yahoo facility is the place in New York where the consolidation of Yahoo would be successful and where we can have a growing presence."
"I am proud that Yahoo has chosen our facility for consolidation," said Town of Lockport Supervisor Marc Smith. "This is a clear indication of how dedicated and hardworking our workforce is, and that Niagara County and the Town of Lockport is a place where business can not only locate to, but succeed. Not only will no one lose their jobs, but this is a sign that expansion is coming."
The Lockport location was selected by Yahoo based on the fact that it is a new facility and there is land to expand the grounds. This announcement comes on the heels of Yahoo's acquisition of additional land next to its current facility. While the specific site of the other consolidation location is unknown, it is not in New York.
