Wheatfield residents will start receiving their new 65-gallon recycling totes on Monday.

Over the next week, large trucks will be in the town's various neighborhoods to assemble and drop off the totes.

Starting the week of April 2, Modern Disposal will start to pick up these totes on an alternating week basis. Instructions are being delivered with each tote explaining when the neighborhood collection will begin and what is recyclable. Residents are asked to place the new recycling totes within five to 10 feet of the edge of the road, with the arrows pointing toward the road.

Regular weekly garbage collection remains the same as it is now.

Almost all residents will receive the new 65-gallon recycling totes. The Town Board is asking residents to use the new totes for a three-month trial period. No sorting of recyclables is necessary.

"We hope that all will recycle more than they have in the past," said Supervisor Bob Cliffe. "Please remember, we are charged for everything that we send to a landfill. Modern pays us for everything we recycle. By recycling in this manner, we will save at least $180,000 per year."
