After President Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Harper today announced a new joint action plan to reduce travel times and enhance border security between the U.S. and Canada, Congresswoman Hochul released the following statement:

"This is great news for not only our motorists, but for the countless Western New York businesses that move goods and services across the border every day. The Peace Bridge and the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge in Buffalo would both receive upgrades to their physical infrastructure, and the number of NEXUS lanes on multiple bridges would be increased.

"These improvements will help increase commerce and help grow our upstate economy. Currently, inefficiencies at the borders between the U.S. and Canada cost over $16 billion a year. With these improvements, we can increase the amount of goods crossing the border, as well as the $535 billion in merchandise trade New York's economy garners each year."
