World Diabetes Day in Niagara Falls

As part of an initiative to promote awareness of World Diabetes Day on Monday, Nov. 14, a group of agencies coordinated by the "Mayor's Task Group on Health" gathered at Niagara Falls City Hall. As part of the initiative, displays promoting a wide-array of information on diabetes were set up at numerous locations throughout the community.

Some of those gathered at City Hall to commemorate the effort were, from left, Charles Walker, director of community outreach, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center; Avery T. Bates, co-project director, Task Group to Create a Healthier Niagara Falls; Theresa McCabe, public health educator, Niagara County Health Department; Jill Shuey, co-project director, Task Group to Create a Healthier Niagara Falls; Kaitlin Smith, community educator, Cornell Cooperative Extension; Katherine Barker, community educator, Cornell Cooperative Extension; Denise Kiener, outreach educator, Community Health Center of Niagara; and Judith A. Maness, president and CEO of Mount St. Mary's Hospital.
