Artpark plans for 'EDGES III' sculpture competitionby jmaloni
Up to seven works to be selected for summer-long exhibit
Artpark is immediately placing a national call for entries for its third installment of the outdoor sculpture competition titled "EDGES III." Up to seven works will be selected for a summer-long exhibition (May 28-Sept. 15) on the grounds of Artpark, a 150-acre New York State Park located in Lewiston.
Deadline for postmarked and/or electronic submission of entries - along with a $25 non-refundable fee per artist - is March 31, 2012. Awards will consist of a $1,500 grand prize, a $1,000 second-place prize and a $500 third-place prize. Winners will be announced in June 2012. The works, which may be up to 25 feet in height, will be viewable - at no cost - to all park visitors.
Judging the competition will be a selection committee of local artists and Artpark's visual arts staff. Works will be selected by this committee and approved by Artpark's park manager. Once works are installed on site, the committee will select the prizewinners.
Each artist selected for the exhibition will receive a $500 honorarium to cover transportation, installation, de-installation of the sculpture, and any other incidental expenses. Any costs more than $500 are the responsibility of the artist. While up to seven works will be selected for display, the committee reserves the right to request more than one work from a single artist.
Artists are permitted to sell their work(s) - with Artpark retaining a 10 percent commission - during the project period. However, the work(s) must remain on site for the duration of the exhibition.
