The Grand Island Town Board voted Monday to set a public hearing for 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17, at Town Hall to consider a of sex offender residency law.
The hearing, for Local Law Intro. No. 3 of 2011, comes in the wake of an online petition drive by local residents (http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/gi_safe/) "that would make it illegal for a sex offender whose victim was a minor to live within a quarter-mile from a playground, school, park or day care center."
The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services website lists six sex offenders living on the Island: level 2 offenders on Bedell Road, Colonial Drive, Laurie Lane, and Fix Road, a level 3 offender in an apartment in Town Hall Terrace, and a level 3 offender with a secondary residence on Old Carriage House Road.
