"A Family Celebration of Patriotism and Hope," honoring first responders, veterans, and service men and women, took place in Ransomville on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Organized as a community remembrance of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, participants included the Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, CM, president of Niagara University; Rev. Wayne Jagow, fire chaplain of New York and Niagara County clerk; the Ransomville Volunteer Fire Co.; and the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. Band.

Organizer Linda Pixley reported the community came out to honor these heroes and show their appreciation.

"These brave members of the community have made sacrifices in their lives. We may never be able to repay these heroes, but at least we can show them our appreciation," she said.

In addition to remarks, the program featured a replica display of the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and a candle-illuminated display representing the individuals who lost their lives on Sept. 11.
