Older adults who live in Niagara County are invited to sign up for the ninth annual "Senior Prom," a free intergenerational event held annually by the Health Association of Niagara County, Inc. The Senior Prom pairs older adults with local high school students for dinner, dancing and conversation.

There is room for 140 older adults for the event, to be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 23 at Antonio's Banquet and Conference Center, 7708 Niagara Falls Blvd. Reservations are required and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis beginning Oct. 3 at 285-8224, ext. 211.

HANCI started the "Senior Prom" to encourage students and older adults to spend time together and learn more about each other. The event is paid for through sponsorships and donations. Participating high schools include Canisius, Lewiston-Porter, Newfane, Niagara Catholic, Niagara Falls, Niagara-Wheatfield and St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute.

"The 'Senior Prom' is a learning experience, and it's a service experience, but above all, it's a fun experience," said Christine Argona, volunteer chairperson for the event. "There is nothing quite like looking at a dance floor full of students and older people celebrating and having a great time. You have to see it to believe it."
