Hospitals join forces for breast cancer awareness

Avon and three Niagara County hospitals have joined forces with The Cancer Services Program of Niagara County to promote the importance of breast cancer screening for women age 40 and over.

During the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Avon representatives, along with the Cancer Services Program staff, will have promotional events at the following locations from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Oct. 3, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, Niagara Falls; Oct. 4, Summit Healthplex, Wheatfield; Oct. 11, DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda; Oct. 17, Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport; and Oct. 18, Eastern Niagara Hospital, Newfane.

Partners will provide information about the importance of yearly breast cancer screening at these venues. Staff from the Cancer Services Program will also have information about free breast cancer screening available to women 40 to 64 years old who do not have health insurance.

"Kiss Packets," which will include an Avon lipstick and other breast cancer awareness items, and "Kiss Pledge Cards" will be available for sale. The proceeds will be used to help pay for breast cancer screening not covered by the Cancer Services Program.
