Veterans in Niagara County can learn more about Veterans Administration health care and other veterans' benefits at upcoming events scheduled at VA clinics in Lockport and Niagara Falls.

The first event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Lockport VA Outpatient Clinic. A similar event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Niagara Falls VA Outpatient Clinic.

Photos will be taken of veterans for VA identification cards, and flu vaccines will be available at the Niagara Falls VA Outpatient Clinic event at no cost for veterans enrolled in VA health care. Flu vaccines are also available at no cost at the Lockport VA clinic during afternoons Monday to Friday for veterans enrolled at that clinic.

Benefits counselors will be on hand at both locations to provide information for individual counseling and answer questions about VA health care that includes comprehensive medical care and prescriptions along with other veterans' benefits. Benefits are available for those who recently served in combat in Iraq or Afghanistan that may include free medical care for those returning from combat.

Veterans have a variety of benefits, that often go unused, available to them and this information session offers a chance to learn more about them one-on-one with counselors from Department of Veterans Affairs, New York state and Niagara County.

Take a copy of discharge papers and financial information from 2010 for accurate benefits information. For more information, contact the Lockport clinic at 438-2890 or the Niagara Falls clinic at 862-8580.
