Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, and State Sen. George Maziarz, R-C-Newfane, today announced that Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation allowing the transfer of land from Niagara County to the Town of Newfane. Ceretto noted the land transfer would give Newfane the ability to improve the area and make it a more desirable tourist destination.

Ceretto, sponsor of the bill in the Assembly, said, "This transfer will enhance local control over the popular Olcott Beach area and will give our community a greater say in the land-use decisions of Western New York. The land transfer will not only extend the season for people to enjoy the area, but it will also allow for important improvements, such as a splash park, to be made, transforming the beach into a more desirable tourist attraction."

Maziarz, sponsor of the companion bill in the State Senate, said, "I commend the Town of Newfane for its desire to maintain and improve the Olcott Beach area. This transfer will allow the town to take the lead in keeping the beach open for tourists throughout the summer. I'm glad all levels of government could work together for the benefit of the Olcott community."
