In announcing endorsements, the Town and Village of Lewiston Republican Party reports history was made this year in Lewiston : seven out of eight GOP-endorsed candidates are running unopposed. This includes Supervisor Steve Reiter, Councilman Ron Winkley, Councilman Ernie Palmer, Legislator Bill Ross, Legislator Clyde Burmaster, Town Justice Thomas Sheeran and Town Justice Hugh Gee.

"No one can remember when the last time something like this has happen," commented Rob Nichols, GOP chair. "And judging from the numerous positive comments that I've received from friends, family and others throughout the community, I believe it's clear that the citizens of Lewiston, Sanborn and Colonel Village believe that our elected officials are leading our community in the right direction. One recent example of this leadership involves the tax-cutting efforts of the superintendent of highway, Doug Janese. When he was faced with two new proposed tax hikes, he found another way, eliminating the proposed taxes all together by merging the drainage and highway departments together."

The Town and Village of Lewiston Republican Committee announce the following candidates have been endorsed for this year's election.

•Town of Lewiston Supervisor: Steven L. Reiter

•Town of Lewiston Councilman: Ronald Winkley

•Town of Lewiston Councilman: Ernest C. Palmer

•Town of Lewiston Highway Superintendent: Doug Janese

•Niagara County Legislator- District 1: Clyde Burmaster

•Niagara County Legislator- District 2: Bill Ross
