City of St. Catharines will have staff working through the night to clean contaminated water and save fish at Happy Rolph's Bird Sanctuary and Petting Farm after run-off from a weekend industrial fire contaminated the park's ponds.

Workers spent Tuesday pumping contaminated water out of two ponds at the city attraction. The water is being piped into the sanitary sewer system where it will be treated and cleaned and the ponds are being refilled with fresh lake water. The ponds contain fish, including carp, catfish and koi. As many as 60 fish have already died.

Contaminated water was also blocked from running into Lake Ontario.
