The Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Town of Niagara Police, New York State Police, Niagara County Auxiliary Police, and Wheatfield constables along with local fire companies will manage various traffic control points outside of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station for the Thunder Over Niagara air show this weekend.

Niagara County Sheriff James Voutour reports visitors can expect changes this year to the traffic flow patterns for entering and exiting the air base. Due to construction projects on roadways within the area, the involved agencies have issued the following information on traffic plans to ease traffic delays for the show.

To reach the air base

•From Route 190: exit at Porter/ Packard Road and head east on Packard Road crossing over Route 265. Continue east and follow variable message boards directing vehicles to use the shoulder as they approach Tuscarora Road. All traffic from this direction will enter the airbase at Tuscarora Road.

•From Niagara Falls Boulevard (coming from the east): Use Ward Road from Niagara Falls Boulevard and head north to Lockport Road. Turn left on Lockport Road and head west to Walmore Road. Turn left on Walmore Road and enter via the Walmore Road gate.

These are the only two entrances open to the public for the air show. There is a construction project on Niagara Falls Boulevard to the east and west of Walmore Road. It is recommended that motorists not use this area to make their way to the air base. Niagara Falls Boulevard is reduced to two lanes in this area.

Leaving the airbase

Vehicles will exit at three locations: The Tuscarora Road gate and head west back toward Route 190 using Lockport Road/Packard Road; or, exit the Lockport Road main gate and head west toward Route 190. These two exits will be formed into two lanes heading west to Route 190. The third exit, Walmore Road, will form two lanes heading north and all traffic will turn right onto Lockport Road remaining in two lanes. At Ward Road, the left lane will continue straight and the right lane will turn right on Ward Road.

The section of Lockport Road between Walmore and Tuscarora roads will be closed temporarily during the show.

The NCSO advises drivers to be patient and follow directions from the officers and posted variable message boards. It notes additional information will be released as necessary.
