Area business members had a chance to say thank you and goodbye to this year's outgoing Youth Ambassadors, Sydney Dudish and Kathleen Rustowicz, at the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce board of directors summer outing. The outing was held on the Grand Lady cruise ship.

The Youth Ambassador program is set up to promote interaction and goodwill between local students and the business community. The program is designed to recognize the youth of this area, and to select two Youth Ambassadors who will represent Grand Island at chamber and school functions as well as community and business events. Dudish will return to Grand Island High School for her senior year, and Rustowicz will attend Canisius College this fall.

Selection for the 2011-12 Youth Ambassadors is now in progress. The two chosen Youth Ambassadors will each receive a $750 scholarship. Now in its 15th year, the program is open to all Grand Island residents attending grades 10, 11 and 12 in high school on or off the Island, for the 2011-12 school year.

To sponsor the Youth Ambassador program, costs range from: platinum sponsor $200, gold sponsor $100, silver sponsor $50 and bronze sponsor $25. Contact the chamber office at 773-3651 for more information about any donations.

The scholarship applications are available in the guidance offices at all area schools and at the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce office, located at 2257 Grand Island Blvd. All completed applications must be submitted to the chamber office by Friday, Oct. 7.
