YMCA Buffalo Niagara is offering diabetes prevention programming to Western New Yorkers at three of its area branches: Niagara Falls, Delaware and Southtowns family YMCAs.

This 16-week program, based on research from the National Institutes of Health and the Center for Disease Control and prevention has demonstrated that lifestyle modifications that achieve and maintain modest weight loss in adults with pre-diabetes reduced the risk of developing diabetes by 58 percent.

This program, offered once a week, aids in the prevention of diabetes for individuals who have pre-diabetes. The program meets in a group setting where personal lifestyle goals are set for each individual by trained coaches. Each one-hour session will cover diet, exercise and behavior modification.
