A smeltin' good time on Water Street

The annual Lewiston Smelt Festival, held Friday, May 6, in the park area on Water Street above the Lewiston docks, was another great success. A huge crowd came out to eat some smelt, dance, and catch up with friends after a long winter.

A small army of folks from the Niagara River Anglers Association prepared and fried smelt. The Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce, with help from Smelt King Ken Scibetta, Peach Queen Courtney Corbetta, and an impressive number of volunteers, kept the long line of hungry folks moving quickly all night. When a light rain started to fall later in the evening, people just moved into the large tent where the Lakeside Blues Band was rocking the night away.
