The Wheatfield Republican Committee endorsed Kathryn Palka-Lance to run for the newly created 7th District seat in the downsized Niagara County Legislature.

Palka-Lance is a building literacy coach in the Buffalo public school system. She resides in Wheatfield with her husband, Roger. They have two daughters, Meghan, 25, and Meredith, 13.

"I asked the Wheatfield Republicans to back me because I believe in our party's core principles: lower taxes, smaller government, more freedom," Palka-Lance said. "I'm not running for the Legislature because of my passion to be in government, I'm running for the Legislature because I want government out of our lives."

Palka-Lance said she plans to run in the new district—which includes the southern portion of the Town of Wheatfield, including much of the Niagara Falls Boulevard corridor, as well as the northwest corner of the City of North Tonawanda—because she wants to see economic development and job creation in the region.

"The new 7th District includes one of the most important job-creation corridors in Niagara County," Palka-Lance said. "The section of Niagara Falls Boulevard that extends through the Town of Wheatfield includes both growing businesses and commercial land that will eventually be the homes of new businesses. I want to make sure our county's policies are conducive to that growth."

Palka-Lance said she believes commonsense tax policies, reductions in the size of government, and a solid economic development program are all key to the region's future.

"There is no more important role of government than facilitating an environment where business can take root, grow, and create jobs," Palka-Lance said. "That means we need to lower taxes and cut spending, we need to encourage companies to locate here and invest, and we need to fight against job-killing policies originating in Albany and Washington."

Palka-Lance vowed she would stand up for both communities in the 7th District.

"The 7th District straddles the Wheatfield-North Tonawanda line, and that means whoever you elect needs to be ready to fight for both communities," Palka-Lance said. "I'm ready to fight that fight. I plan to work with leaders like Supervisor (Bob) Cliffe and Mayor (Rob) Ortt, and county officials like (legislators) Bill Ross and Paul Wojtaszek, to make sure county government listens to these two communities."

Palka-Lance said her platform is a simple one.

"I'll fight for lower taxes. I'll fight for less government and less spending. And I'll fight for North Tonawanda and Wheatfield," she said.
