Upcoming of note in North Lake country

The following are upcoming events of note and more in the North Lake country:

•Olcott United Methodist Church, 5956 Main St., Olcott, will offer a community day on Sunday, April 3, following the 10:30 a.m. worship service. A free picnic lunch featuring hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries and "make your own sundaes" will be served. Area residents are invited.

•Immanuel Lutheran Church, 7147 Ridge Road, will sponsor a chowder sale and luncheon on Sunday, April 3, from noon until sold out. Lunch will include chowder, a roll, homemade dessert and a beverage. Chowder will also be available by the quart or gallon. Bring your own container.

•Shoppe on Main, 2714 Main St., Newfane, announces the following:

On Saturday, April 9, artist and therapist Katie Foley will present another in her series of children's art classes. Titled "Earth Day Nature Craft," the session runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Each class costs $15 and is geared for ages 8-15. Call 778-5273 to register for this class and also for the floral Easter class presented by John Taylor on Wednesday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m. Cost for that class is $30.

Crochet classes at Shoppe on Main are held on Thursdays: from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for students, and 5 to 6:30 p.m. for adults. For more information, contact Lisa at 751-6723.

Shoppe on Main also has a variety of Easter candy on sale by All That Chocolate.

•Warrens Corners United Methodist Church, 5293 Stone Road, Lockport, will hold its annual roast beef dinner on Saturday, April 9, starting at 4:30 p.m. In addition to a full dinner, guests have their choice of homemade pie or dessert.

•Newfane Lions Club will sponsor a breakfast buffet and Chinese auction on April 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Olcott Fire Hall, 1691 Lockport-Olcott Road, Olcott. The auction starts at 12:15 p.m.

The Lions are dedicated to providing sight to members of the community. Bring your used eye glasses to the breakfast or give them to any Lions member. Numerous businesses in Newfane also have collection boxes for drop off.

•The Lockport Theatre Organ Society presents Tom McGinley at the "Mighty Wurlitzer" on Monday, April 18, at 7 p.m. at the Lockport Senior Center, 33 Ontario St., Lockport. Admission is $6 and parking is free.

Applications are now available for recreation leader positions in the Town of Newfane summer recreation program. They may be picked up at Newfane Town Hall, 2896 Transit Road, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Applicants must be Newfane residents and high school graduates. The application deadline is April 21.

A reminder that the Newfane town-wide yard is Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4. Contact Robin in the town supervisor's office, 778-8531, ext. 3, before May 16 to get your name on the locater map, which will be available in area businesses starting May 26.
