Metz qualifies for state meet

Starpoint High School senior Becky Metz, a Gleason's School of Gymnastics level-10 gymnast, qualified for the state meet by scoring a 33.425 all around at the recent Niagara Cup meet.

She will be traveling to Long Island March 26 and 27 to compete.

The girls level 4 team from Gleason's placed second at the Niagara Cup.

Kendall Sobczyk from Errick Road Elementary School in Wheatfield placed eighth all around with a score of 35.575. She also placed fifth on floor. Morgan Mahoney from Wheatfield placed ninth overall with a score of 35.55. Mahoney also placed sixth on bars and eighth on both vault and beam. Emily King from West Street Elementary in Sanborn placed 10th all around with a score of 35.525. King also placed fourth on bars, fifth on beam and ninth on floor.

In the 9-to-10-year age group, Erica Beyer from Errick Road Elementary placed 11th all around with a score of 35.6. Beyer also placed fifth on bars and 10th on floor. Anastasia Burkholder, also from Errick Road, placed 11th on floor, and Hanna Evert from West Street Elementary placed 11th on beam.

In the 11-plus age group, Ashton Kowalski of Starpoint placed sixth on bars and eighth on vault.
