The Niagara Falls Police Department is investigating a number of purse thefts in recent weeks. The incidents have occurred citywide involving women returning home from shopping at businesses both in Niagara Falls and the Town of Niagara.

The thefts have all occurred when the victims, while unloading their shopping bags, have their attention diverted and their purse is taken and the suspect flees the area.

The suspect has been described as a male, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall; 190 to 200 pounds; late 20s to early 30s or older; wearing dark clothing with a hood, and sometimes a scarf. A light colored SUV white or light gold sedan may be involved.

The Niagara Falls Police Department has alerted the neighboring police jurisdictions and is coordinating a unified police effort.  All agencies will continue to use all police resources available to apprehend the suspect(s).

The Niagara Falls Police Department is advising the public to be aware of their surroundings, be alert, and safeguard their purses.  They should also be cognizant of any vehicle following them from the store, and stopping near their homes to let someone out.
