Lewiston Public Library February schedule

The Lewiston Public Library, 305 S. Eighth St., in the Village of Lewiston, announces the following programs, events and activities for the month of February.

Special Events

•An Endangered Species presentation by the New York State Office of Parks and Historical Preservation will be offered Friday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. Featured will be discussion on endangered plants and animals in the state.

•Upstate New York Transplant Services will visit Saturday, Feb. 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a blood drive. Call for a reservation or just stop by to donate.

Clubs and More

•The Lewiston Book Club will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 1, at 1:30 p.m. For further information, contact Anita Mallimo at 754-7714.

•The Knitting Club meets every Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. No registration is required and knitters of all skill levels are welcome. For more information, contact Ellen Comerford at 754-4144.

•The Dead Beats Society will meet on Monday, Feb. 7, at 6 p.m. Those interested in assisting with the digitization process of the library's obituary collection are welcome. The project is sponsored by the Jon F. Popkey Genealogy Room and is part of a continuing effort to allow easier access to family history records. •The Lewiston Writers' Group will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lewiston Public Library. On Monday, Feb. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m., it will meet at Asker's Café, 400 Main St., in Youngstown.

The group consists of area residents who meet regularly to discuss and critique their writing efforts, and exchange ideas and information about the craft. Guest speakers are scheduled as available. For more information, visit www.lewistonwritersgroup.com.

•Mom's Book Chat, a book discussion group for moms, will meet Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. Discussed will be "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot. Child care is provided for registered participants. The library will be closed to the public during this event.

•The family movie matinee showing of "Gnomeo & Juliet" will be on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 1 p.m.

•The classic film series showing of "Casablanca" will be presented on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m.

•The Friends of the Lewiston Public Library maintain a used book room all year long; it's open during library hours.

February meetings for the month include the Lewiston Library Board of Trustees, Monday, Feb. 7, at 5 p.m.; Friends of the Library, Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m.; the Lake Ontario Ordnance Works Restoration Advisory Board, Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 5 p.m.; and the Riverwalk Association, Monday, Feb. 28, at 5 p.m.

Children's Events

•The Science Explorers Club will meet on Monday, Feb. 1, at 4:30 p.m. Featured will be a special presentation on crystals, what they are and how they are made.

•Tail Waggin Tutors will visit on Tuesdays, Feb. 8 and 15, and Saturdays, Feb. 5 and 26. Registration is required; those already registered should check their scheduled time. Contact Miss Ann at [email protected] or 754-4720 with any questions.

•Annette Wall and the Lew-Port Middle School Builders Club will visit for story hour on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m.

•The American Girl Club meets on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 4:30 p.m. Members will discuss Kaya and are asked to read one of her stories ahead of time; books are available at the library.

Weekly Story Time

•Alphabet Soup with Miss Ann, for children ages 3-5, will be offered on Mondays, Feb. 7, 14 and 28, at 10:30 a.m.

•Lap sit story time with Miss Ann, for children ages birth to 23 months, will be offered on Wednesdays, Feb. 2, 9 and 16, at 9:30 a.m.

•Toddler hour with Miss Ann, a time of music, stories and crafts for children ages 24 months to 3 years, will be offered on Wednesdays, Feb. 2, 9 and 16, at 10:30 a.m.

•Story time with Mrs. Leardini, for children of all ages, is offered on Thursdays, Feb. 3, 10 and 17, at 10:30 a.m.

The library will be closed on Monday, Feb. 21, in observance of Presidents' Day.
