Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, NY-28, ranking member of the House Rules Committee, voted Jan. 6 to reduce by 5 percent the budget of House leadership, rank-and-file member and committee offices.

"I've seen families and small businesses cutting back their budgets and today in Washington, I was proud to support Congress cutting back as well," said Slaughter. "Fiscally responsibility should start in our office."

Because Slaughter heads the Democrats on the Rules Committee, this means that she has two offices that will receive the five percent budget cut: her personal office and House Rules Committee minority staff.

At the time she said, "If lawmakers are going to talk about fiscal responsibility, we shouldn't just talk the talk, we should walk the walk. I'm proud that we can operate under budget and give some of our allocated funds back."
